About city night pictures
City Night pictures show a skyline after dark. A moon and small stars sit in the night sky, a row of back buildings stands behind, and front buildings carry rows of lit rectangular windows. At the bottom, a street shines with streaks of reflected light. With so many windows, this is one of the most detailed themes in the app, so it suits people who enjoy small, precise work.
Lights on a wet street
On a wet road or a river at night, lights often stretch into long vertical streaks rather than appearing as neat mirror images. That happens because the surface is uneven: each small ripple or puddle reflects a little of the light at a slightly different angle, and together they smear it into a column. The street reflections here are a simplified version of that effect.
One window at a time
Lit windows are what make a night city glow, and here they are many small rectangles that often share just a few numbers. The back buildings add depth, so the front buildings and their windows stand out. Because the areas are small, it helps to zoom in and work one building at a time rather than hunting across the whole skyline. Our guide to small areas has more techniques.
Coloring tips
- 1Zoom in on one building at a time, since window numbers only appear when the rectangles are large enough on screen.
- 2Windows sharing a number often line up in rows, so on a touchscreen drag along a row to fill them quickly.
- 3Stars are tiny and scattered, so finish with Hint to jump to any you missed in the night sky.
