About cat pictures
Cat pictures are close-up portraits of a single face. Each one has two ears with a colored inner ear, cheeks, a nose and a mouth. Some cats have stripes on the forehead, others a single patch or a scattering of spots, and some have plain faces. The eyes may be wide open with pupils and a small highlight, or closed in a sleepy expression, and some cats wear a collar or ribbon.
Faces we read at a glance
Many cat owners describe a slow blink from a relaxed cat as a friendly signal, which may be why sleepy, half-closed eyes feel so charming in a drawing. Forehead stripes are a nod to tabby cats, many of which have markings that form a rough letter M above the eyes. Tabby describes a coat pattern rather than a breed, so it shows up on many kinds of cats.
Small details, big character
Eyes, highlights and noses are the smallest areas in these pictures, and they give each cat its personality, so they are worth zooming in on. The large face and ears fill quickly, leaving the expressive details for last. Have a cat of your own? You can turn a photo of it into a puzzle.
Coloring tips
- 1Fill the large face and ears first, then zoom in on the eyes, where pupils and tiny highlights are separate areas.
- 2Forehead stripes and spots are small, so pinch in to reveal their numbers before tapping.
- 3If your cat wears a collar or ribbon, press Hint at the end to catch thin pieces under the chin.
